This Game Called Life (Kingdom Book 4)

The hands that had been fisting the sheets only moments before were suddenly around his neck as she sat up. All of a sudden she was plastered against him, and she so felt good as the hardness of her nipples rubbed against his chest, and she wrapped her legs around his back.

The contractions of her core tightened even more around him, and Jake loved the way she buried her face against his neck. Then he felt it. The pull of her mouth as she sucked his skin, she was marking him. Jake’s orgasm exploded and he threw back his head and groaned out his pleasure.

Having used the bathroom, Jake returned to the bedroom to find MacKenzie once again dressed in her robe. Noticing she had the baby monitor in her hand he was immediately concerned. “Is she awake?” He asked.

“She’s fussing. She generally sleeps through the night, but she’s teething,” MacKenzie explained.

“Okay,” Jake said, not really sure what she meant. That MacKenzie was concerned was enough for him to take her words seriously.

“I have to go,” she said, now standing by the door.

Jake nodded his understanding at her need to be with her child. “What about if I came along?”

“I’d like that,” MacKenzie said, with a smile, seemingly to have been waiting for just that suggestion.

Grabbing a pair of sweat pants from his closet, Jake pulled them on and was by her side in record time.

***********

The sun had already risen, and it seemed Noelle had no intention of going back to sleep. As she chatted away, Jake appeared to be content to carry on a conversation with the baby as though he understood every sound she made.

It was the most adorable thing MacKenzie had ever seen. A large six-foot five man lying on his back with a baby on his chest, his attention solely on her.

For a moment, MacKenzie’s sight blurred with tears. This was what she had wanted since she was a teenager and had been so disappointed. To have her child and a man who loved them both. He hadn’t been what she had expected throughout her many affairs. She knew Jake was the right man. He was her man. He loved Noelle, and he loved her. That was all she had ever wanted.

“I love you, Jake,” MacKenzie whispered, not wanting to break into his moment with Noelle. Somehow this seemed like the perfect time to say the words she had been so scared to voice.

“I know,” Jake replied turning to look at her with a gentle smile. “But thank you. I needed to hear the words.” Lifting her hand, he pressed his lips to the ring he had placed on her finger. “It took a while but everything is as it should be.”

MacKenzie smiled and nodded her agreement.

Jake grew serious as he continued to look at her. “Always remember that I love you. The two of us being together, is as it should be.”

Knowing that he loved her and seeing him with her daughter made her happy. He, Jacob Kingdom the man who had so irritated her when they first met, made her happy.

Placing a kiss on her daughter’s forehead and one on Jake’s lips, MacKenzie knew he was right. Things were exactly as they were meant to be.
