Ever After

Chapter 48

Rescued

Pratt and Andrew came running into the clearing where we were. Pratt’s eyes found me instantly; he looked at Will and to Roth and his face looked tense. Pratt knelt down next to me. He had on a black baseball hat with our covens dragon symbol on it, he reminded me of a high school football coach for some reason.

“Corrine can you tell me what happened?” I looked at them all and took a deep breath.

“I rolled Roth’s hummer down a hill, and hit my head in the wreck” I bit my lip as I looked at Roth. “Sorry about that.”

“No don’t be Corrine, it’s just a vehicle. I can get another. I’m just glad you are ok.” He smiled as he shook his head. I was glad he wasn’t mad about that, so I went on.

“Then after the bridge thing, I woke up on the river banks. It wasn’t long until Todd found me; he kept trying to make me run so he could hunt me down. I couldn’t so he got mad and hit me and threw me up against trees and logs.” I could see Wills eyes narrow and his jaw clench, he was trying to control his anger.

“I’m going to hunt him down and kill him!” He said in a low angry voice. Roth and Pratt looked up at him.

“Will, there will be a time when Todd Downs will pay for this, but right now we can’t go after him.” I could see he was not happy with Pratt’s attempt to cool his temper. He sighed and ran his hand gently along my cheek.

“He will pay though, and I will be the one to do it. Nobody but me will end his miserable life.”

“Yes Will. Todd will get what he deserves and I doubt Doc will argue with you about how you would like to deal with him, either.” Pratt sighed.

“Oh I’m helping man; no way am I missing out on that!” Roth added.

“Ok fine you two.” Pratt said his voice carried a sharp tone. “Corrine how long has your heart been beating so quickly?”

“Hours, it got worse not long ago, right before Todd ran off.” Pratt shook his head, as he turned my face to see the bad cut on the side of my head.

“Roth get my bag it’s over by the tree.” In an instant, Pratt was cleaning my cut, with stinging alcohol. I winced as he carefully cleaned it. I dug my nails into Will, who was oblivious to what I was doing. His eyes were locked on me, as he whispered softly to try to keep breathing.

“We must get her back to the house. I need to get her heart rate down in the next hour it is critical.” Pratt wrapped my head with a bandage with his expert hands.

“Andrews getting the car, he’s over a half mile from here, it’s the closest road. He will call us when he is close.”

“Where is Riley?” Will asked.

“He took off after Todd; he’s tracking him and will call us when he gets a good lead.” Pratt said as he dug in his bag. “I’m going to give her a mild sedative to calm her down. The lack of blood has caused her heart to go out of control. Roth, call Doc and have him prepare five units of blood, when we arrive she will need them immediately.”

“Got it.” Roth flipped open his phone and dialed Docs number.

I shivered, even under Will’s heavy wool coat. Will held me close to him to block the cold wind form blowing on me. He bent his head down on to mine as he rubbed my back trying to comfort me. Pratt held my wrist in his hands, I barley felt the needle in my skin. I didn’t care about the shot at all. If it helped with the pain and I was in Wills arms nothing else mattered.

“Are you ok?” Will asked softly his deep blue eyes filled with concern.

“I think so.” I whispered as I felt a wash of relief go through me as the sedative went into my system. I closed my eyes, suddenly feeling too tired to hold them open any longer.

“Sleep my love; I won’t let anything harm you.” Will kissed my forehead as I rested safely in his arms.

I heard them talking about the arrival of the Irish coven, the McClain’s. Pratt voiced his concerns about them. I knew they had issues with Leo and the Dark coven and were very angry. Pratt worried they might cause more trouble than help when the all got here. I had not known the main elders were already at the coven house with Doc.

More of the McClain’s were to arrive later this week. Leo had been making threats against them for weeks, along with bugging us. I had no idea how Doc was going to deal with Leo, he was insane and dangerous and hell bent on killing me apparently. I heard silence for a moment, all I could hear was the sound of the river near by us.

“Is she asleep?” Pratt asked softly.

“Yes it looks like it, she’s so tired.” Will replied.

“William we need to speak about something.” I heard a change in Pratt’s tone of voice. I had been about to drift off to sleep, feeling so warm in Wills arms. The edge in Pratt’s voice woke me up. I didn’t open my eyes though. I could tell what ever Pratt had to say he did not want me hearing, so it must be bad.

“I’m glad Corrine is asleep now. I needed to speak with you about this and it cannot wait. I also did not want her to hear this.” I knew it had to be really bad now. I did my best not to let them know I was actually still awake.

“Yes, it concerns me too. This whole thing with Todd Downs and his obsession with trying to kill her is insane. The issue with Leo as well, it’s a giant mess.” Will said in a hushed tone.

“We have to stop all of this William. Corrine can’t take any more of these attacks and kidnappings it all has to end.”

“Todd’s nothing. Roth and I will go after him as soon as I’m sure Corrine is healing and safe back at the house.”

“No Will, its beyond that I’m afraid. What I’m seeing is bad, very bad.” He paused. “I began having visions while I was treating her just a few minutes ago. I tried to ignore them, as many times they change and mean nothing. This time, I got the same vision over and over. The only time that has ever happened the vision came true.”

“What are you seeing?” Wills voice rose slightly. I could feel his arms hold me tighter as he spoke.

“I saw the Dark coven re organize after this incident at the bridge and they do it quickly. Todd will go back and fuel Leo’s anger with Lies about us. It will be a disaster as Leo sets out to eliminate all of the Followers.”

“What about Corrine? What did you see for her?”

“Death is what I saw William. It is a horrid painful death. Leo will somehow get her and take her back to the Dark coven’s home. He tortures her and Todd is allowed to help him. I can only see it is in some kind of underground place. It was dark and had stone walls.”

I heard Will gasp in shock. I had heard about Pratt’s visions, if he said they were strong, nobody in the coven doubted them happening. I just happened to be the un lucky idiot in his vision who gets killed.

“No, we can’t let this happen. I will not let this happen!” Will nearly yelled, but suddenly made his voice quiet trying not to wake me.

“What the hell are we going to do? We are not letting that freak get her are we?” Roth too was shocked. I was trying not to scream at Pratt’s awful vision.

“We won’t let it happen Will, you know that. I know what we need to do and I will get with Doc when we get back to the house on the plan. I know we were to leave for France soon, but we need to leave as soon as possible. It is not safe her in the states, we must go to my estate in France without delay.” I could hear the tension in his voice.

“Leo may follow us, but he doesn’t know the area like I do and he will have trouble getting to you and Corrine. My coven as you know is large and we have links to many covens in Europe who are strict Followers. I think it is the only chance we have at keeping Corrine safe and alive now.”

“Ok, then we have to get her out of here. I won’t risk anything happening.”

“It won’t Will. I have not seen it yet, but I feel this plan I have will ensure her safety. The McClain’s will be with us as well. Xavier, their head elder is a un beatable fighter, and he will back us up with his coven when we prepare to do this.”

“Leo will have to kill me first, if he even tries to get Corrine.” I felt him kiss my cheek.

“I know Will; we will do all we can to keep that from happening.” Pratt’s cell rang and I heard Andrew tell him he was at the road now, ready for us to meet him to be taken back to the coven house. “We will care for Corrine, and then get our plans to leave the country underway.”

I knew once again all the things I knew were about to change. Will and I were engaged and had hoped to be planning our wedding by now. It seemed now we had to plan our escape so I wouldn’t be tortured to death. I hoped that somehow I could at least get to call dad and Gran before we had to leave the country.

Gran was not getting any younger. I feared if we were away to long, she might not be here when we finally got all this mess with Todd and Leo worked out. I knew dad would not understand me leaving for Franc either. It was going to be hard to explain it to him, as I was supposed to be in the Maine treatment center.

I hated to lie to him; it hurt me deeply not to tell him all the things going on. I knew he would never understand all of this, but I did hope one day maybe I could be honest with him. I thought maybe Gran might be able to help me explain my “new” life to him. That’s if I actually got to live it out.

Leo was a bad enemy to have, and I was the target of his new obsession. I had heard all the horror stories from Sayann and numerous members of my coven. Leo was sadistic, and many thought he was nothing but pure evil. I heard he adored torture and many other forms of hideous things.

I curled up closer to William as he got up and began to walk with Pratt and Roth to the waiting car. I loved him, and only wanted to become his wife and share my life with him. It was a simple enough thing to want, a common thing really. I just hoped and prayed we were going to get the chance to do that.

Time would only tell what our future might bring. The only thing we both wanted was to share our lives together in peace. Peace was all we ever really wanted anyway, getting it was going to be the hard part. I had to have faith that we could survive whatever happened next.
