The House Swap

Writing The House Swap was something of a leap of faith for me, and I’ve been lucky enough to find many people along the way who have been willing to take the leap with me. First was my brilliant agent, Caroline Wood at Felicity Bryan Agency, who saw the potential in the book straight away, helped me to craft and polish it, and got on with the complex business of ‘agenting’ with astuteness and aplomb to ensure that it landed in the best hands. Thank you too to the amazing team at Transworld who have championed the book with such teamwork, energy and passion from the start – and above all to my editor Frankie Gray, who has combined an exceptionally keen editorial eye with a real understanding of what I was aiming to do with the novel. The House Swap has also found a home in several territories around the world, and more thanks must go to Pam Dorman and Jeramie Orton in the US in particular for their editorial input and enthusiasm along the way.

Closer to home, I’m very grateful to all the friends and family who have helped me stay positive about the often up-and-down nature of writing. Special mentions go to Charlotte Duckworth for beta-reading and empathy by the bucketload; Jenny Duggin for cheerleading and relentless belief; the Book Frisbees for being voices of expertise and sanity in the wilderness; my parents, Nigel and Elaine, for their rock-solid support; and my husband, Daniel, for never letting me lose sight of what mattered. Lastly, thank you to Saskia for reminding me that living is just as important as writing.
