InTheBeginning…

Iopen my eyes and peer towards the windowpane…

Thedawn aurora sheds its blue glow.

Ifeel Mindy caressed on my arm, her head snug on my shoulder. I didn’tknow what to think of this… entanglement. I feel this affectiontowards her that I can’t describe... yet it feels forbidden. Such aperfect being like herself here with me. What if… what if theCouncil finds out of this, what will they think of her?

Islip off her and rest her head on the pillow. I gently get off thebed and pull a bath gown that’s set on the sofa. I throw it overme, grab the duffle bag off from the floor, and leave the room.

Ihave to get out of there; I can’t risk exposure like that.

Thecorridor is cold and dim. Only my footsteps accompany me. My barefeet tiptoe over the ice-cold tile as though I were walking over ironpins.

Iwalk through the vacant dining area and freeze at the sight of thebody that appears around the corner.

Emilio, brow slump and eyes squinted, stares at me with arms crossed.

“WesleyStamps, I was just coming to visit.” He says.

Ibreak a smile. “H-Hey.”

“Pleaseaccompany me.”

Emilio’stone is hard, the hair in the back of my neck rises up and goosebumps spring on my arms.

Ifeel sweat trickle down my brow... I really hope that he doesn't readmy reaction.

Whatif he knows about Mindy and I? There isn’t any other reason he’dbe out moping about so early in the morning. He must be here to takeme in. F*ck, shit, son of a bitch.

Itry and ease my hyperventilation by loosening the robe lace “W-Whereto?”

“Let’stake a stroll outside. The dawn is such a beautiful sight, I can’tbear to miss another.” He says.

Reliefwashed over me.

“Leadthe way!”

Hesmiles and then nods. “Come.”

Whilehis back is against me, I slide the duffle bag from my shoulder andtoss it beneath some table that’s overshadowed by a large painting.I take the gown off and toss it on top of the bag then hurry to catchup.

Heopens the door for me…

AndI make my way through the back double doors of the resort that leadsdown towards the beach.

Emilioclutches my shoulder. “Now we can speak a bit more about lifebefore the Great Flood.”

Hemoves ahead of me and makes his way down the steps and onto thebeach. I follow closely, feeling the smooth cool sand shuffle beneathmy feet.

“Beforethe flood there was civilization,” He outstretches his arms andpoints at the resort. “Much like your humanity, it builds, destroys, and then rebuilds. Our civilization didn’t havedenominations, nor cultural differences, and a slew of differentlanguages to confuse the masses. However, there was disagreement.”He stares at me with an ogled expression. “If you must know, onceall the land masses were a whole, known as Gia. Well your historianscall it Pangaea. One gargantuan piece of land. The land was splitbetween four Populus, or in another word: Nations. The NorteAtlantis, Sur Atlantis, Eastendra, and Westendra. In the centerreigned the main Government, also known as the Heir… not exactlyme, nor my Council Members, or the current President of our Order, but a younger version of the more refined Council…”

Thestuff he spoke left me beyond baffled. Hysteria and nostalgia has mynerves on the edge. I’m not sure whether he’s telling me afairytale or actuality. A part of me believes him and another part ofme finds it along the lines of bullshit.
