Cherished (McKenzie Brothers, #5)

“You’ll never belong to Ramon,” he growls as I’m lowered to the floor.

“I know that.” After seeing the hurt he couldn’t hide, I don’t want him thinking that I stopped because of Ramon. “We’re in a club.” I laugh. “We’re not even in private. I didn’t stop for any other reason but for me remembering where we are.”

“Bullshit,” he shouts in response. “You stopped because you don’t want word getting back to Ramon that you got down and dirty with me.”

“That’s—”

“The truth. I know your history with him, and I’m telling you that nothing will ever come of being with Ramon.”

“Don’t presume to know what I’m thinking. I wanted you, you big idiot.” I poke him in the chest with my finger. “If you’d started that outside my apartment then I’d have dragged you inside to finish what you started, so don’t go making excuses up for me. I don’t need one.”

Well, that argument has slightly cooled my libido down. He really is an idiot. In fact, I’m one as well for not seeing him all this time when he’s been right in front of my nose.

Right now, I feel more screwed up than ever. I know Ramon is out of the picture, at least where a relationship is concerned. But until tonight, I’ve done a pretty good job of keeping Eric at arm’s length. Well, that’s gone to hell.

How the hell will I be able to forget the feel of him against me? Or how it felt to have his hands on my ass?

“Sylvia, Eric,” Ruben says, his voice is cool as he steps closer to us. I’m completely surprised…how was I so out of it that I didn’t notice him before now. Thank God it wasn’t a few minutes ago. Oh, no. Please tell me he didn’t see us.

“Ruben. How’s Rosie?” I ask to distract him but I know I’m failing miserably from the looks he’s passing back and forth between Eric and me.

He grins wide. “She’s amazing. It’s her night off tonight or I’m sure she’d have enjoyed the show.” He smirks, but looking at Eric, Ruben clears his throat.

Oh, he saw.

I feel my face heat up, but decide to turn this into an opportunity to prove to Eric that I didn’t stop because I didn’t want Ramon to know.

“I’m going, and Ruben, feel free to tell your brothers about what you’ve just seen. This ape,” I glare at Eric, “is under the impression Ramon is the reason why I stopped, but it isn’t.”

I push past Eric, and hiss, “Ass,” over my shoulder.

He glares in my direction and when I’m at the exit with Talya, who’s reappeared, I turn and he’s still watching.

“He’s not finished with you,” Talya observes.

I smirk, my anger simmering. “Oh, I know…I’m not finished with him yet, either.”
